 Rachel Berman began dancing in her native Hawaii and continued at the San Francisco Ballet School. She earned her BFA in Dance from Purchase College and her MFA from the Hollins University/ American Dance Festival program. She performed with several smaller companies (including Ballet Inc) before joining the Paul Taylor Dance Company in 1989. During her decade with the company she performed principal roles, appeared in television productions, the Academy Award nominated documentary DANCEMAKER, and was profiled in Vanity Fair, Dance Teacher and Dance Magazine.
Ms. Berman is an internationally renowned teacher and one of the few entrusted by Mr. Taylor with the re-staging of his works on companies such as Oregon Ballet Theatre, Tulsa Ballet, and the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. She has been on faculty at the Taylor school, the Joffrey Ballet, Mid-Pacific School of the Arts, The American Dance Festival, University of the Arts, California Institute of the Arts, and Mills College. Ms Berman also served as associate producer at Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS where she helped raise over $100 million for performing artists in need.
