Contra Costa Ballet

CELIA FUSHILLE-BURKE has performed with Ballet El Paso, S.F. Dance Theater, San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet. Celia danced in the national telecast of “Ira Gershwin at 100: A Celebration from Carnegie Hall,” and has appeared in several films: A Walk in the Clouds, The Fantasticks and as Greeata in Return of the Jedi, Special Edition. With Smuin Ballet since its inception, a number of roles have been created on Celia: Frankie in Frankie and Johnny, Roxanne in Cyrano, Lola-Lola in The Blue Angel, "Santa Baby" from The Christmas Ballet, as well as "Summertime" and "The Man I Love" from Dancin' with Gershwin. Celia has also been featured in the title role in Medea and in The Eternal Idol. As Associate Director since 1998, Celia organizes and directs the daily artistic activities of Smuin Ballet, stages and rehearses ballets, and assists Mr. Smuin in the creative process. Celia has staged Smuin works on other companies, most recently Dance Theatre of Harlem.
