The Contra Costa Ballet Centre's program serves the development of students from their first encounters with music and movement to becoming accomplished professional dancers. The curriculum encompasses three separate divisions, which are carefully designed to introduce the correct technique and instruction appropriate for the age and physical development of the student. While many students go on to pursue professional careers, the focus of training is on the excellence and joy of dance at each level of achievement.
Contra Costa Ballet Foundation's first scholarship competition was attended by 9 dancers, all of whom will be in Level 7 or 8 at CCBC in the fall. The dancers took a difficult class taught by Zola Dishong which culminated in a fouette competition. The ladies then performed their prepared solos for the judges; Zola Dishong, Richard Cammack, and Ashley Flaner.
Richard announced the winners: Barbara Riggins has funded a 1-year scholarship designated for a level 8 company member, which went to a very deserving Jennifer Damhesel. Jen, who is 17, will be a senior this fall. This will be her third season with the company. Her solo was from Don Quixote.
Kristin Isom received a 1-year Jo Tao Scholarship. She will be entering Level 8 this fall, and is a 14 year old sophomore. She performed the Diamond Fairy variation from The Sleeping Beauty.
